Brief Description -

Sthir conducted a two-day capacity-building programme for the teachers of T M Patel International School, Surat, designed to reignite purpose, empathy, and excellence in teaching. The programme was conceptualised to help teachers reflect on their evolving role in today’s rapidly changing social landscape and equip them with practical strategies to build emotionally safe and intellectually stimulating classrooms. The intervention was advised by Dr. Lina Kashyap (Former Pro Vice-Chancellor, TISS).

The programme began with a rich contextual discovery of the challenges faced by the school. Conversations with the Principal revealed a complex environment driven by extreme affluence, high parental pressure, and fragmented parent-teacher collaboration. Many children come from financially well-off households, yet experience loneliness, emotional dysregulation, and a deep sense of boredom. Comparison, bullying, and entitlement are worryingly common, while screen exposure and unsupervised access to money are shaping behaviour in concerning ways. Teachers, on the other hand, are striving to cope with behavioural issues, lack of parental support, and the pressure of syllabus completion, often at the cost of meaningful learning.

With this reality in mind, the programme was designed not as “training”, but as a journey of reflection, connection, and transformation.

Day 1 — Shaping Mindsets & Laying the Foundation
The first day focused on strengthening the inner world of teachers. Through carefully facilitated circles of sharing, journaling prompts, and deep listening exercises, teachers explored the impact of their profession, rediscovered the meaning in their work, and examined their mindset as continuous learners. The opening session helped teachers reflect on their own legacy as educators — not just in academic results, but in shaping confidence, compassion, and lifelong values. The second session offered strategies for classroom management grounded in emotional safety, energy regulation, and inclusivity rather than control and discipline.

Day 2 — Deepening Understanding & Application
The second day began by exploring the emotional roots of “difficult behaviour” and introduced the Ayurvedic Vata-Pitta-Kapha framework to help teachers understand differences in temperament among students. This model enabled teachers to view children not as problems, but as diverse individuals with unique needs and learning rhythms. The final session consolidated the entire programme into practical classroom application. Teachers worked in groups to design case scenarios, discuss inclusive responses, and create their own Classroom Manifesto — a personal commitment to building a classroom filled with curiosity, connection, respect, and emotional safety.

Throughout the two days, the space was intentionally built on empathy rather than instruction. Teachers left feeling seen, valued, and emotionally energised — many shared that the experience reminded them why they chose this profession and renewed their desire to “teach from the heart”.

Sthir remains committed to supporting schools and educators with psychologically informed learning spaces, leadership development, and whole-school wellbeing. This programme marked a meaningful beginning toward raising compassionate, confident, and resilient learners by first nurturing the adults who guide them.
